Joseph Richard Stiles

Born on August 3, 1934, in St. Petersburg, Florida, Joseph Richard Stiles was the son of the late Elmer Osborne Stiles and Helen Fraulein Ford Stiles.

A retired plumber/pipefitter, Joe was a member of Union 111 in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was a member of Hartwell United Methodist Church in Hartwell, Georgia.

He was ordained a deacon and admitted as an associate member of the conference in 1990. He served Bethel, Tallahassee, 1985-92; Calvary, Tallahassee, 1992-99; Gray Memorial, Tallahassee, 1999-2001; and Forest Hills, Quincy, 2001-03. He retired in 2003.

Survivors include his wife, the Reverend Barbara Marvin Stiles; two sons, the Reverend Mark Stiles of Archer, Florida, and Joe Stiles II and wife Carol of St. Petersburg, Florida; two daughters, the Reverend Annette Stiles Pendergrass and husband Scott of Melbourne, Florida, and the Reverend Jennifer Stiles Williams and husband John of Orlando, Florida; a brother, Tom Stiles of Clearwater, Florida; a sister, Martha Heffern of St. Petersburg, Florida; ten grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy Stiles and Fred Stiles, and two sisters, Bernice Rasmussen and Nancy LeFebvre.

Joe passed away on November 8, 2016, at his home. A memorial service celebrating his life was held on November 13, 2016, at the Hartwell First United Methodist Church in Hartwell, Georgia, with Dr. R. Allen Stewart officiating.

Joe will be forever remembered as a beacon of light and love who embodied the grace of Christ to all he met.
